How to Add Music to Instagram Reels the Right Way.

When compared with other forms of Instagram posts, Instagram reels are subject to higher engagement. In fact, reels receive over 22% more engagement than Instagram video posts.

While YouTube has been revolutionizing the video space since 2005, one big problem people have always faced is that they have to rotate their phones to watch videos.

Jon Steinberg, in an interview with Digiday, mentioned, “It’s totally stupid to be required to rotate your device to watch a video full-screen.”

One of the big reasons why vertical videos work as well as they do is that you don’t require your audience to rotate their phones.

At the same time, if you work on them and make them a bit compelling, there’s a good chance you’ll be subject to a high engagement rate.

And adding music to your Instagram reels is a great way to do that.

If you’re looking forward to spicing up your Instagram reels, adding music is a great idea.

This brings us to our question –

“How to Add Music to Instagram Reels”

Let’s have a look.

How to Add Music to Your Instagram Reels

Instagram creators can add music to their Instagram reels by hopping onto the Instagram Reels editor and adding music via the “Audio” section visible on the left-hand side. Or they can do so after recording the video in the “Preview” section.

To help you better understand how to add music to your Instagram reels, allow us to list down the exact steps in front of you:

  • Launch the Instagram Reels Recorder
  • Select “Audio” from the Left-Hand Navigation Bar
  • Look Up the Music & Add it
  • Record the Reel
  • Preview

Launch the Instagram Reels Recorder

The first step is to launch the Instagram Reels recorder. You can do this by clicking on the “+” icon at the top of your Instagram feed. As you click on it, you’ll see a drop-down menu with the following options:

  • Post
  • Story
  • Reel
  • Live

Since we want to record a reel, we’ll click on “Reel.” This will take us to the Instagram Reel recorder.

Select “Audio” from the Left-Hand Navigation Bar

While using “Instagram Reels Recorder,” on the left-hand side, you’ll see different options:

  • Audio
  • Length
  • Speed
  • Video Layout
  • Timer

Depending on your preference, your Instagram reels can be 15, 30, 60, or 90 seconds long. And depending on the length of your reel, you can select the length of the music.

To add music to your Instagram Reels, click on the first option, i.e. Audio.

Look Up the Music & Add it

NOTE – Since you’ll be uploading reels from your Instagram Business account, it’s important to note that – you won’t have access to select and use music from recording artists due to copyright issues. You’ll only find weird songs that are made by random artists. It’s a common roadblock for people when trying to add music to reels using their business accounts.

As you do it, you’ll be able to look up the music that you’d like to add to your Instagram reels. At the same time, you can also access your Saved audio from here – which you can add to your reels.

Let’s look up my favorite song – “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran. While you can select the music directly by tapping on its name, you can preview it by tapping on the “Play” icon on the cover image.

As you select the music, Instagram will ask you to choose the part of the song that you’d like to add to your video.

Select the part – depending on your preference.

NOTE – You can add this from the Preview section.

Record the Reel

Once you have selected the music, you can record the reel. You can also import videos from your Gallery.

When done, select “Preview.”

Preview

While previewing the video, you can make edits to the part of the music by clicking on the Music icon at the top.
