Advertising Done Right: How to Spy on Your Competitors’ Facebook & LinkedIn Ads.

For every dollar businesses spend on advertising, they can expect an average return of $2.87. That’s just a rough number for all the industries. But if you have an eCommerce store up and running, you can expect an average return of more than $4.

That’s huge, isn’t it?

But wait – doesn’t it sound too good to be true?

The truth is – not every business is subject to such an outstanding Return on Ad Spend (ROAS).

If you want your paid ads campaigns to deliver mind-blowing results, you need to do it right. From building a fool-proof paid ads strategy to crafting brilliant ad campaigns to implementing all of it right, everything needs to be just perfect.

But there’s just one big problem.

There’s no secret hack to success with paid ads.

Chances are that you won’t get it right the first time – not even the second or third or fourth maybe.

If you want your paid ads campaign to be a grand success, you need to try and test different approaches. You need to learn what’s working and what’s not – and based on that, you’ll have a results-driven advertising campaign up and running.

But that’s just too much work.

Crafting a winning Facebook or LinkedIn ad isn’t as easy as it sounds or looks on paper.

Like we told you, you need to test different approaches – this means you may have to end up spending your top dollars each month on the trying and testing part.

But what if I told you that you don’t need to go through all of this hassle?

Some of the top brands don’t want you to know this – the reason why their Facebook or LinkedIn ad campaigns are so successful is that they conduct thorough competitors’ ad analysis.

They have a separate team dedicated to this – what they usually do is rather than crafting from-the-ground-up Facebook or LinkedIn ad campaigns, they spy their competitors’ ads and try to gain insights into which ads they have up and running on Facebook & LinkedIn. Also, they try to gain deeper insights into what’s working for them and what’s not.

Once they have all the data they need, they craft conversion-focused ad campaigns to skyrocket their sales and grow their business.

Steve Jobs once said, “Good artists copy; great artists steal.” And in the marketing world, if you want to achieve brilliant success, you need to try to gain insights into your competitors’ ad campaigns and build a result-oriented social media advertising strategy – depending on what’s working for them.

In this blog post, I’ll be showing you how you can check out the advertisements your competitors have up and running on both Facebook and LinkedIn.

Let’s dive straight into it.

How to Spy on Your Competitors’ Facebook & LinkedIn Ads?

First, let’s check what kinds of ads your competitors are running on Facebook.

How to Spy on Your Competitors’ Facebook Ads?

Step I: Type in Facebook Ad Library on Google and click on the first result – which will appear as “Ad Library – Facebook.” However, if it doesn’t appear as stated, just click HERE. Here’s what the Ad Library looks like:

Step II: Now, under the search ads section, select your Location (United States) & Ad Category (All Ads). Also, add your competitor’s business name in the search bar. Right now, we don’t have any ads up and running, so you may not find anything for us. Let me show you.

Step III: Let’s check it for “Ahrefs.”

They have about five ads up and running. And as you can see – they were launched in September 2021.

Facebook will provide you with a world full of insights like launch date, type of ad, and also you can click on their CTA to gain access to more information.

Step IV: Let’s click on “Learn More” for one of the ads and see where that takes us. We’ll do it for this ad:

Upon clicking on “Learn More,” we were redirected to their “7 Niche Market Examples You Can Learn From” blog post or guide.

Step V: If you are using Windows, we’d advise you to select the “Ctrl” button on your keyboard while clicking on the CTA. And if you are a Macbook user, use “Command” while clicking on CTA. Doing this will open two pages:

Destination Page with Informative URL – this page will provide you further information about the advertisement.

But – it doesn’t provide us with too much information as everything is just jumbled up. Reach out to our paid ads experts to know more.

The Facebook Ad Library will provide you with valuable insights. However, some details you won’t be able to fetch includes:

  • Engagement of the ads
  • Precise statistical insights
  • Budget allocation
  • Performance reports

Conduct thorough analysis – and by thorough I mean learn what kind of ads they have up and running, their ad copy, graphics, CTA, where they are redirecting their audience to, and more. Try to fetch as much information from them as possible.

Similarly, you can spy on your competitors’ ads on LinkedIn. Let’s learn how.

Step I: Visit LinkedIn or just click HERE.

Step II: Now, type in your competitor’s company name in the search bar. Let’s do it for Ahrefs again.

Step VI: And here you can briefly look at their ad campaigns. Right now (as of this writing), Ahrefs has only a single ad up and running:

Upon clicking on it, it redirects us to their “What is SEO Content? How to Write Content that Ranks” blog post or guide.

Just like we did on Facebook, you can fetch valuable insights into their LinkedIn ad campaigns by following the steps I’ve listed above.
